Re: 720K floppy

Re: 720K floppy

This is good experimentation so keep the progress going....

as I mentioned my experience with SD Cards were dismal at best....Twice had to reformat after a corrupted directory...

but I know others seem to be ok, maybe it was just the usage and programs I was running... who knows.. :)

Re: 720K floppy

Initially I used the SD Card on my JRIDE but after a few weeks, it started to act up and I lost a bunch of subdirectories etc and then the DIR cmd showed crap as well, so I chunked it for a 'real' hard drive...... if you have a real drive, 'see my front page on my model in the jride build'. try one....

Re: 720K floppy

You need to boot from DOS 3 or 4 then perform the patch... on the Target Drive...

Be sure the DEBUG is for that Dos version...

Re: 720K floppy

This is a 1.44 drive , if I remember I had issues getting these to work, But mine is also a JU256A227P, but I use DOS 5. Upgrade to DOS 5.0 as I did and it should work, maybe even Dos 4. PS you will need to be aware of the DOS 5 requirements for BOOT disk, read my front page SOFTWARE for DOS5Patch it...

Re: DC Power Brick for PCjr

I agree it should work, using pins 1 and 3 in either order, if the Current rating is ok give it a try.. May want to try in on the bench with the power supply not plugged in first. I dont think you will get the -12v as it needs to be plugged in if memory serves me, but you can measure the 5V to see. ...

Trouble Shooting Boards

I was watching Adrians Digital basement, his recent episode fixing Comodore units... He does pretty good diagnostics, and then swaps chips to remedy suspsect issues.. I learned a trick with TTl chips (even works for CMOS) years ago, many many years.... When you have chip that is suspect, you first r...

Re: Motherboard Failure

I dont see how software can make this happen.
Try running with the pcsprint off, then turn it on... should be fine..
I think you had a solder issue and the other board is still good with some investigative work...

Re: Motherboard Failure

First thing that comes to mind is the PCSprint board, and possible issue with the connection to the MB, this is the main timing focus... I know some installs have issues with damaged the pins plated thruhole connections getting damaged when removing the original chip. This damage will break the conn...

Re: NEC V20 Chip

I believe the -10 is the right one.. but the 5 should work with the onboard MB crystal.... 4.77MHz run freq. is derived from the 14.31818 MHz crystal.. so the -5 should handle this and you will see the advantage of the V20 architecture for speed... but I believe most folks like the -10 to give a lit...

NEC V20 Chip

The NEC V20 -10 chips are good

they give an instant increase in speed.... more they do not fool with the system clock timing and this is important
for the Joystick timing for games...

Others that have used it hopefully will weigh in...

Re: 2nd Floppy Drive

I sounds like the system thinks it has Two drives, this is why it asked for drive B:.
maybe your config.sys is set up for two drives..

are you using the original Jr Floppy controller ?
